History of the Church
Below shows a history of events of our parish.
1845
Two lots of land in Dert’s Pasture were bought and on November 5th 1845, the Foundation Stone was laid.
1846
May 7th  - Dedication of All Saints’ Chapel of Ease.
1849
The first Baptism was registered in August by the Rev. P Le Maitre, Assistant Curate of Holy Trinity Church.
December – The first Marriage was solemnised by the Rev. HW la Borde, Assistant Curate of the Holy Trinity Church.
1889
The Rev Lewis Alfred Taitt was the first Vicar at All Saints’ Parish Church.
1894
The Rev. Arthur Hombersley succeeded Fr. Taitt.
1901
Dedication of St. Crispin’s, daughter church of All Saints’.
1921
The Gordon Home was opened, the gift of William Gordon Gordon who created the Trust known as the Gordon
Charities which maintains the Home.The font in the Church, copied from that in a Scottish Cathedral, was given by
him in memory of his wife, Gertrude Maude Gordon.All Saints’ Memorial Hall was built by the people of All Saints’ on
land bought and given by William Gordon Gordon in memory of those who gave their lives in the First World War.
1929
Dedication of St. Agnes, daughter church of All Saints’.
1931
St. Agnes and St. Crispin’s become Parish Churches, apart of (from)  All Saints’
1932
Archdeacon Hombersley resigned in 1931 and in the year 1932, the Rev Graham Bartholomew took up his
appointment as Rector.
1933
Relighting of the Church undertaken and carried out in the year 1933. This was made possible through the
generosity of fifteen donors.
1936
Aumbry placed in the north wall of the Sanctuary.
1937
Land at Maraval presented by the Gordon Plantations Ltd. Plans made for the construction of a temporary Church.
1952
The Rev. (Later Canon) JD Howe was appointed Rector.
1953
Organ loft was erected as a memorial to the late Archdeacon Hombersley.
1956
Marjorie Padmore became organist and choir mistress and All Saints’ ‘golden age’ of music began; she died an
untimely death in 1981.
1957
January – new Communion rails were installed in the Lady Chapel.
1962
Illuminated cross was erected on the Eastern wall of the Church.
1967
The Rev. Randolph George was appointed Rector; subsequently, he became Bishop of Guyana.
1971
The Rev Rawle Douglin was appointed Rector; subsequently, he became Dean, then Bishop of T&T, from which
post he retired and now acts as Assistant Bishop. Rev. Clive Griffith was Priest-in-Charge when Rawle Douglin left.
1973
The Rev Carl Major was appointed Rector; when he left in 1977, the Curate, the Rev Winston Joseph was
Priest-in-charge.
1975
Renovations were made to the Gordon Home and to the All Saints’ Cottage.  The All Saints’ Cottage has now
become the Curate’s Flat.
1978
Free Legal Aid Clinic established.
1982
The Rev. (subsequently Canon) Winston Joseph was appointed Rector.
1991
Dedication of exhumed and restored Stained Glass Window.
1999
Bell tower & chimes given by Scott family, commemorating many years of deep and generous involvement with All
Saints.
2000
Retired Diocesan Bishop, Clive Abdulah, acted as Priest-in-Charge; he now acts as Assistant Bishop; Bishop
Abdulah was assisted by Curate, Rev. Carl Williams
2002
June - David Aldred became Deacon. September - The Rev. Canon Claude Berkley was appointed Rector.
2006
May 7th All Saints’ celebrates its 160th anniversary with a service conducted by the Archbishop, Drexel Gomez and a
theme, ‘160 years of Service to God’
