A MESSAGE FROM THE BISHOP OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO on the occasion of The
160th Anniversary of the Consecration of All Saints Church May 7, 2006

The celebration of the 160th Anniversary in the life of any organization is indeed a time of
much rejoicing, and when that organization is a Church then it is time for thanksgiving.

I would like to join with the rest of the Diocese in giving thanks to Almighty God for All
Saints Church as it celebrates its 160th Anniversary.

What a blessing this Church has been to countless generations of Anglicans here in
Port of Spain!

Situated strategically as it is, it has been and continues to be that place where many
became united with Christ in Baptism, nurtured in the Sunday School and continued the
journey into Confirmation, and thereafter led through the turbulent teen years in the
various manifestations of All Saints Youth Groups.  And once youth gets mentioned the
name of Carmel Mason looms; what a contribution she has made!

From Confirmation the journey continued and continues to the sacred union of man and
woman in Holy Matrimony – all within the embrace of All Saints, and then finally on to that
time when the journey on earth ended at the threshold of eternity.

All Saints has been and continues to be that place where Morning Prayer and the
Eucharist are offered daily as the faithful are inspired and fortified by word and
sacrament to enable them to face the changes and choices of this mortal life.

And what we may never know, what silent witness All Saints must have been and
continues to be to the thousands of people who go past it on a daily basis as they
encircle the Queen’s Park Savannah!

What new hope it must provide to many others who have had their dreams of a new life
shattered!

Heartiest congratulations to the present All Saints Parish to its clergy and people and
sincere thanks to all who have served in the past and are now serving elsewhere or in
eternity.

God Bless!
