The Anglican Church in the Diocese of Trinidad and Tobago

On October 12th, 2006 our nation celebrated the 200th anniversary of the arrival of the Chinese in
Trinidad – a key event in the evolution of our society. At All Saints we have more than our fair share of
persons of Chinese descent, amongst whom are the families identified below.
Allum - Allum Poon - Arthur Wong – Assing – Chan – Chang – Chin - Chung – Hosang – Lau – Lee –
Lee Lum - Leung - Lue Yat – Manhin – Martin – Scott - Tang Choon – Wee – Wong – Woo - Young.
If we have left out anyone, our apologies.
In recognition of the bicentennial, representatives of these families played a significant role in our
6am and 7:30am services held on Oct. 15th, 2006 ; they took the responsibility of ushering, reading,
taking up the collection and, most important, preaching.
We admired the elegant cheongsams of the ladies and appreciate the mementoes provided for us by
our Chinese members – bookmarks and small gifts for all. And, to further the celebratory aspect of the
service, the 7.30am congregation was treated to a Fan Dance.
And, for the occasion, we renamed our priests Canon Berk Lee and Fr. Wee Liam!
We wish voice our congratulations to the Chinese community for their contribution to the building of
our nation. We record, also, our appreciation of the contribution to All Saints by our Chinese members
– both past and present.
