A Message from the Bishop of Guyana
Randolph George
Although my incumbency at All Saints' (1967-1971) was a relatively short one I look back
on that period of my ministry with great thankfulness. It was a time of spiritual and
evangelistic challenge. The high standard of worship was due in no small measure to
the excellent choir under the direction of Marjorie Padmore assisted by Fr. Alex Liddle the
assistant Curate who was also an accomplished organist. Several members of the choir
later took up music as a profession - Michael Steele, Lorna Myers, Dianne Granderson
and Hyacinth Nichols and distinguished themselves in their respective fields of
specialisation.
The Parish was fortunate to have the services of Carmel Mason whose life was entirely
devoted to the spiritual nurturing of the youth of the parish. In this way All Saints has
made a special contribution in helping to prodice many citizens of quality and influence
in the life of the nation. Thanks to the efforts of a forward looking vestry the parish
acquired a plot of land at Maraval around 1969-1970. A Chapel was constructed on this
site and has been in regular use for over thirty years chiefly to serve the needs of
parishioners in that area.
The occasion of the 160th Anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the rich
heritage of All Saints as a place where the Gospel has been preached in all its fulness
throughout those years. As we reflect, we pray that under its present Rector Canon
Berkley the latter glory of All Saints will be greater than the former.
Yours in Christ
