| Pastoral Care |
| Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." (John: 10:11) This is the most graphic image of Our Lord's relationship with us and it epitomises how we must approach our mission of pastoral care. Clergy are trained in pastoral matters, including caring for individuals and families. In James 1:27, love for God is explained as visiting the sick, widows and orphans in their distress. Notwithstanding the fact that this remains one of the most important duties of a Christian priest, it is by no means confined to the priest. Here, at All Saints', the laity have been commissioned to assist in general pastoral care, hospital visitation, home communions, prayer lists, individual spiritual direction and pastoral meetings, buddy transport systems, parish discretionary funds, caring for the needs of Senior Citizens and ministering to youth. The Pastoral Ministry also places great emphasis on marriage and family life, including pre-marital counselling, infant baptism instruction, weddings and funerals. In addition, the support of shared praying and consultation have been characteristics of believers since New Testament times. The act of helping and supporting others is sanctified in God's love. Thus every Christian is in fact a pastor when the need arises, and should be committed to extending Christian compassion and care to all in witness to the presence of Christ among us.
